 What are the benefits of blogging for students?

Blogs have many practical uses in a classroom for students. They are easy to set up and create making the barrier to entry very minimal for most students. Within a blog, students can display all types of multimedia which enhances their appeal for students to make and to consume. When reading each others blogs, students can interact through them with the author and other readers, instead of the one way communication of a website, or other presentation medium.  Knowing they have an authentic audience, instead of something like an essay that will be seen by just the teacher, has shown to make students more careful and care more about their product. Spelling, grammar, and content improve because they know they have an audience.
